Gamespace is proud to feature the independent video game SCHiM (2024), developed by a small team in the Netherlands. SCHiM centers on a clever shadow-jumping mechanic and takes its name from a Dutch word meaning the shadow or spirit of an object. In the game, players control a frog-like creature—a "schim"—leaping from shadow to shadow in a quest to reunite with its counterpart. The game unfolds across tranquil, idyllic towns and landscapes, all viewed from an isometric perspective.

The game’s minimalist art style highlights outlines and shadows, evoking the ligne claire illustration tradition of artists such as Hergé, Joost Swarte, and Chris Ware. Here, negative space—the shadows—takes visual precedence over positive space.

SCHiM was created by Netherlands-based artists and designers Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman. It has earned major awards and nominations from the Tokyo Game Show, London Games Festival, and A MAZE. festival.

Gamespace is also pleased to offer a selection of art prints from SCHiM for purchase onsite or online here.
